A lot of the ingredients that are helpful at treating acne tend to be drying to the skin. A thick moisturizer will help balance out your skin. Here are a few of my current favourite moisturizers for acne-prone skin!

This is the Somebymi AHA BHA PHA Miracle Cream . It retails for around $20 on the Yessstyle website. It comes with 50 ml of product. Now this one is not the heaviest cream in the books but it’s perfect for Combination-Dry acne-prone skin. It has a water-jelly texture that absorbs quickly into the skin. It is lightly fragranced with lavender, orange, and tea tree oil. What I love most about it is that it is made with 70% Centella Asiatica, a calming ingredient for your skin. It's going to help destress and soothe any irritation any redness. A big part of having acne is the inflammation that develops in the skin, this will help alleviate that.

Notable Ingredients:

  • Centella Asiatica: calming

  • Niacinamide: anti-inflammatory, brightening, controls oil production

  • Tea tree: anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory

  • Aloe: hydrating, soothing, anti-inflammatory

  • Green tea: calming, antioxidant

This is the Versed Skin Soak Rich Moisture Cream. It retails for $17.99 on the Versed Website. This company is really known for being a very clean brand so all of the ingredients follow suit as well. If that's something that you're interested in and you really want to support this is a clean brand that you can try. This is a thick moisturizer, thick soothing cream perfect for soothing dry skin. I found that with my combination skin (which tends to be more combo-dry in the Winter), I didn't get any excessive greasiness on my face which I definitely love. I usually wear this at night, but it’s also perfect for smoothing the skin before applying makeup in the morning.

Notable Ingredients:

  • Hydrogenated Polyisobutene: forms a film over the skin, occlusive to smoothen

  • Squalane: light oil suitable for acne-prone skin

  • Red algae extract: increases moisture retention

This is the Naturium Plant ceramide Rich Moisture Cream. It retails for 25.00 on the Naturium website. This is another clean brand, with naturally derived lipids and ceramides to help strengthen the moisture barrier. It is the thickest out of this list and has a nice creamy texture. It has a base of shea butter so it nicely traps water in and keeps the skin soft all night long. Because it’s so rich, you really don’t need to apply a lot of this product. It melts quickly into the skin and is fragrance-free so it has a light shea butter scent.

Notable ingredients

  • Oleic/Linoleic/Linolenic Polyglycerides: moisturizes, anti-aging

  • Shea butter

  • Squalane

  • Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil: fatty acid, naturally anti-inflammatory

This is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, it retails at Sephora for $48.00. It is described as a heavy cream suitable for very dry, or those who deal with eczema. It has a smooth texture and absorbs quickly into the skin. This one has a natural finish so there isn’t a creasy film left over the skin. This one is a perfect day cream for me even with my combination skin. I love using this especially if my skin is having a flare-up from an irritating product.

Notable Ingredients

  • Shea butter

  • Squalane

  • Allantoin: Calms and soothes skin

  • Colloidal Oatmeal: soothing, helps eczema

This is the Benton Snail Bee Steam Cream. It retails for $45.00 on the Yesstyle website. Looks can be decieving with this one because it looks like a light-weight lotion, but its actually quite thick and I believe the reason for the texture feeling so rich is because of the way it is created. Steam creams are blended using high temperatures and steam technology, which increases the efficacy of the formula. It has a fluffy, whipped texture and layers beautifully on the skin. Be very light-handed with this one because it does leave a shine to the skin.

Notable ingredients

  • Bee Venom: promote collagen production

  • Snail Mucin: hydration, healing

  • Niacinamide

  • Jojoba

  • Sunflower

  • Safflower

  • Palmitic acid: soften skin

This is the Kate Sommerville Goat milk. It retails on the Sephora website for $93.00. It has a very silky luxurious texture but it doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy, or sticky. Goat milk has definitely been a treasure find for me I've really enjoyed using it. Goat milk has traditionally been used in Egyptian skincare to really help nurture and fortify your skin barrier. It is filled with amino acids and great proteins that help to replenish the skin. It has a feint rose or floral scent.

Notable Ingredients

  • Lactose from Goat’s Milk

  • Milk Polypeptides: Nurtures sensitive and extremely dry skin and helps to restore moisture balance.

  • Jojoba and Avocado: conditioning

  • Aloe

  • Grape Seed Oil and Vitamin E: Help neutralize free radicals.
