Discovering Your True Self: The Journey Within

With all the noise of daily life, it is not unusual to feel a little lost. To feel like a wanderer of your own existence, tied to characteristics and definitions that don’t quite suit us anymore on our journey to self discovery. The only answer is to “find yourself” — but what exactly does that mean and why is it so difficult for many of us to do? We may want to change, we may see the need by looking at the world, or people around us and realize this is not how we wish to continue but where do you start? Let’s discuss a simple yet powerful tool to help us find out way.

Journey to Self Discovery

Finding your true self is like searching for the hidden treasure burried deep inside of you. Its about shedding the layers built by years of condition, expectations and societal pressures placed upon us throughout our lives. It a process of re-connecting with you authentic self— the person you truly are under the mask we wear for the world.

If this is such a natural process, why is it so challenging? The realities of life has a way of searing us off course. From a young age, we are told what to dream, how to dream, what success looks like, and how we should fit into the mold society has prepared for us. We spend our formatives years chasing these external ideas, so much so that we lose sight of who we truly are along the way.

Getting Closer to Self

So how do we reconnect with the person we were before the world told us who to be? It starts with the desire to uncover the good, the bad and the ugly through self reflection, self accountability and introspection. Journaling is a powerful tool to use on this journey. Journaling creates a safe, sacred space for your to explore your innermost thoughts, feelings, observations, perspectives, and experiences. It provides a window through which you can see your true self.

When most people think of journaling, they think of a teenage girl up in her room, journaling about her latest crush and every intricate detail about her day. No one has time for this and journaling does not have to be complex or time-consuming. It can be a few simple reflective sentences each day. You can begin with what you are grateful for. We are so conditioned to see negativity throughout our life so by actively expressing gratitude, you can begin to see the abundance already around you an begin planting the sees to attract more. You will see the beauty if life even amongst the things you already encounter in your life.
