The Importance of Negative Emotions

Let's talk about the importance of negative emotions. I used to believe that spirituality was all about being happy, and healthy, and dancing ,and frolicking, and feeling all of these high vibrations. But…

when you only focus on positivity, it creates a one-dimensionality, and it will actually hinder you from moving forward

The beginning of my spiritual journey started with a traumatic event, the loss of a loved one. And for a very long time, I was numb. I did not feel positive or negative emotions. After that, I only focused on the positive emotions, and I completely hid, ran away from anything that angered me, made me feel sad, or anything like that.

And I carried on with this cycle of what I call crying spells, where everything would trigger me. I would start bursting into tears, I would be really upset and angry at everything, and everyone, uncontrollably - and I didn't understand why. It wasn't until I was introduced to the concept of the Shadow Self and started looking at my negative emotions that things started to change.

When we think of perfection, we tend to think about all the altruistic good; super caring, super giving, super selfless - all these wonderful positive attributes. But what if our understanding of perfection is flawed? What if perfection is more of a circle or a sphere versus a line?

What if perfection is the equilibrium, where you are both good and evil. You are both selfish and selfless. You are both strong and weak. You are both masculine and feminine. You are everything all at once. The caveat is we choose how we express our modes of perfection. Everyone experiences these negative emotions, be it anger, sadness, baneful lust, or greed. It is utterly impossible to keep your vibrations high all the time.

Perfection then becomes the sum of our flaws; the lessons, the wisdom, the knowledge that we gained from experiencing negativity.

It is when we are high that our conceptions, the lens through which we see the world, is challenged. It is when we are low that we grow.
